The Perpetrator
They chained me down when I tried to fly
They cut my wings when I opened my eyes
To sit down, to shut up, and the truth to deny
But what can I say, it’s the circle of life.
“The Grass will get greener and the trees will rise up”
They say from their windows drinking wine from their cups
And I can’t help but wonder if I’ve had enough
For the grass has grown browner and the trees have been cut.
To live in a world amidst all this bait
You still have to wonder if things are that great
I carry the baggage and refuse to walk straight
But they won’t let me sit now, I cannot be late.
It’s all moving so quickly, it’s gone in a blink
I stare down at the ground at the edge of the brink
I go down in the ashes and down in the ink
And they still do not grant me the leisure to think.
