The laid down path of concrete ends abruptly

at the edge of the treeline. Harsh beams from the sun

are filtered out by thick green Wisconsin treetops,

temperature dropping by ten degrees.

My run begins, animals stir as I plant my feet into

the soft soil disrupting the sheltered peace.

Tree roots unbalance the ground beneath

me along with silver colored stones.

My lungs expand and fall faster from the crisp air.

Stark blue breaks the brown blanket as a blue bird

gathers twigs for its home. Ahead, flowers as red as my cheeks

signal my turn around point.

Noise from the world beyond the treeline makes its way

back into my ears. Stepping onto the pavement path, the air grows

heavier and the sun strikes my skin. Turning back once more I smile

knowing my serene getaway will always be waiting for me.
