Health
“Health” said a traveler,
“It is a friend, a pair of wings,
Often have I held its hand,
As it flew me to my highest dreams”
“Health,” said a traveler
“It is a thief, a wish,
A tear, a plead
Long have I prayed for it,
But never have I felt
The warmth of its promise”
And I believed the second traveler,
For health was to me,
A thief, a wish,
A tear, a plead
And never have I felt
The warmth of its promise.

This piece is inspired by Stephen Cranes's poem "Truth". I took the format of his poem but inserted my own words.
This poem is personal to me in that I am not a healthy person, I was diagnosed with a heart condition and my lack of health has stolen many things from me, mostly opportunities. The adjectives I used to describe health in the second and third paragraph are bulit around my own emotions and actions in the name of health. Health has stolen my dreams away from me and kept me from experiencing certain things. Many people have turned health into a prayer and a wish, and either in joy or great sadness health has been manifested in tears. As a last resort a lot of people plead for things to change, for the pain to go away. But it doesn't, the warmth doesn't come back.
