poison.

poison the mind,

the body,

and the soul.

poison feels good.

heat burning your tongue

fire scorching your throat

lava churning in your stomach.

even before it takes hold

before the incessant anger

hatred

it changes

you

abuse of poison

poison abusing you

when you pick up that bottle

you know what you are doing

when you bring it to your lips

you want to see your world

burn

set your body on fire

watch it spread

until the house is crumbling

sparks flying

illuminating the anger

in your

eyes

poisoning yourself before you

take

a

sip

The author's comments:

This piece is referring to alcohol abuse. It uses the word poison as a symbol for alcohol because alcohol is like poison, and when you drink it, you are poisoning your body for fun. This poem helps readers to see the world from the alcoholic's perspective.
