Tried Too Hard
You try every trick in the book to tell him how you feel.
You look at him.
You smile and wink flirtatiously.
You keep calm but your heart is fluttering faster than ever.
You do anything for him.
You talk about the future.
You laugh about dad jokes.
You listen to his playlist of music you don’t like.
You look good everyday.
You talk everyday.
You make an effort to see him.
You try so hard to show how you feel.
You’ve been told for years that actions speak louder than words.
But how loud do the actions speak if he doesn’t notice them?
You try again still without saying words.
You feel as if it is hopeless
but then all at once
it feels like it is fitting into place.
But one day, it’s gone.
He chose someone else.
He never said it.
But you can feel it.
How it’s all gone to crap.
Everything that was in between the lines is gone.
He won’t look at you anymore.
But when he does it’s with regret in his eyes.
He won’t smile or wink back anymore.
He avoids eye contact.
He’s no longer a calming thing in your life.
He doesn’t make your heart flutter anymore.
In fact your heart comes to a stop.
He won’t let you do anything for him anymore.
He won’t talk about like he has a real future anymore.
He doesn’t tell dad jokes anymore.
He doesn’t share his headphones anymore.
He doesn’t notice how good you look anymore.
He doesn’t talk anymore. He isn’t making an effort anymore.
You want to ask “Why?”,
“What happened?”,
“Did I do something?”
But you don’t.
You say you’re happier now.
But you aren’t.
You said you would never give up.
But in the end you do.

This is a piece that I think every girl can relate to in some part of their lives. It did happen to me. It does hurt but in the end it will all end up okay.
