We followed that yellow spotted line of highway until we couldn’t go any further.
And then we kept going.
Where the asphalt stopped, we drove on concrete.
Here is where cell phone signal drops.
When that concrete ceased, we travelled on gravel.
Here is where there is only one radio station left
Once the gravel dispersed, we traversed on dirt.
Here is where that last radio station cuts out
Out here, you can taste the gravel dirt,
As it blows around from the tires.
Feel the dust grinding on your teeth.
Smell the water and the fish.
The fish that live in every pond on almost every property out here.
If you want to use your cell phone, then you may want to turn around.
You are twenty miles away from getting one bar of signal
Your radio spits out nothing but static.
Which you can barely even make out over the crickets, coyotes, and cattle.
There is no contact with the outside world from here.
Here you are. You made it. Congratulations.
You have made it to the greatest town, or rather, the lack thereof.
Welcome to Nowhereville, USA.
Out here, it’s green for miles.
The only time it changes is on the road you took to get here.
You’re not truly alone, of course.
You have neighbors no more than a ten minute walk away.
They’re friendly enough, so long as you are as well.
Out here, no one bats an eye when you ride your ATV up to the McDonald’s.
The only location of the only chain restaurant out here.
You’re in the land of the Mom-and-Pop Shops.
You’re in Nowhereville, USA.
The town that used to be everywhere in the country.
Out here, it’s green for miles.
The only time it changes is on the road you took to get here.
This is Nowhereville, USA
And this is what America used to be.
This is what America came from.
You don’t have to like it,
Just appreciate it and respect it.
Enjoy your stay
In Nowhereville, USA,
The original USA.
