My identity is a big part of me

In fact it is me

I am Mexican-American

The tacos and the hot dogs unite

My parents were both born and raised in Mexico

But not me

I was born in the blue red and white

Even though I feel more Mexican than American my identity comes with a lot. Good and bad.

My parents being from a different country comes with many benefits

Food

Parties

Family

You name it

We have delicious, mouth-watering food

Finger-licking tacos

The smell of freshly baked bread when we make tortas.

We are always together

We look like a marching band when we have parties and we all dance

The laughs are louder than fireworks we’re always there for eachother.

Through thick and thin

The only thing that seperates is the thinnest of the thin

A Label

We are labeled as job stealers, murderers, etc.

My identity has always been a big deal to me

Well the good sides of it

It wasn’t until my dad got a free vacation for life to Mexico called deportation

Breaking families apart because people don’t see us as people

They just see us a illegal aliens

Unfortunately this is also part of my identity

I know for a fact they are just jealous that many Mexicans didn’t get an education, have citizenship, or have money can get a job while many people born here can’t.

My identity is great

I’m proud that I was able to be part of the Mexican flag but also of the American. My identity is half and half. But a little more favorable to the Mexican side.

I am part of a strong huge group of people making a living

Being Mexican American is a big part of my identity.
