There are many causes of cancer.

Cancer is harmful to people.

Chemotherapy can make you lose

Your hair, weight, and appetite.

Chemotherapy is like going to school.

Cancer can give you heart problems.

Cancer can go into remission,

Which means it is not active.

There are different types of cancer,

Like lung cancer and breast cancer.

Lung cancer is drowning.

They will put a port in your chest.

The port is used to flush your lungs,

Like flushing the toilet.

You will need oxygen.

You won’t be able to breathe.

Cancer sits there and thinks,

“I got you now.”

So in a way,

Cancer is like your demons.

Demons are horrible.

They are like emotional death.

They will make you cry,

Until your eyes feel like

They are going to pop out of your head.

They will cause pain, depression,

And suicide.

They are happy,

When you are not.

Demons watch you and laugh at you.

They watch and think,

“Look at what I caused you,

There is more to come.”

All demons are different,

But you learn to control them,

To live with them,

And to ignore them.

Demons are a part of you.

So, they will always be with you.

You can’t escape them.

You can try to run,

Like your life depends on it,

But they will always be waiting for you.

Demons will wait for you,

Until you give into them,

Or until death.

They will never give up on

Trying to destroy you.

Do not listen to your demons,

Do not give in to your demons,

And do not ever trust your demons.

They will always be wrong.

Push through the pain and suffering.

You can defeat your demons,

And win this battle.

You just have to believe.

Believe in your friends.

Believe in your family.

Believe in yourself.

The author's comments:

I wrote this piece because my grandmother was recently diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. I also wrote it because I have inner demons that I deal with every day. I struggle with them, but I just believe in myself and try to be positive.
