Plastic Mannequin
Perfect porcelain skin
Waxy ruby lips
Glassy eyes
You stare adoringly at the angel in the mirror
Posing
for the eye camera
“Click,” “click”—the clicks click on forever,
feeding that green monster—
That leech in a bottomless pool of blood
Look around in your reflective box
Every wall lined with fractals of you
A black and white,
empty, cold
Shrine
Memories of an empty life…
You’re breaking out, choking suddenly!
Beyond the walls you find
a world of tumbleweeds and thunderclouds.
Unable to outrun the past—
A shoe stuck in gum
Admire yourself again, your only friend:
Cracked skin
Melted lips
Shattered eyes
Watch your disintegration
Listen to the hollow shutters
Oh, the miserable tree of vanity
The tree with no fruit and no leaves
The tree drowning in a lonely, dusty sea
