“Veni, Vidi, Amavi” — I came, I saw, I loved

I was from a world forbidding scissors—

cutting my little sister’s hair and strangers persisting she is the cutest little BOY they’ve ever seen.

I was from colossal gatherings of my family tree—

with presents under the sweet smelling pine.

I was from sippy cups filled with diet soda—

learning caffeine is a friend.

I am from a world consumed by anxiety…

I am from purple walls, filled with edgy posters and tapestries expressing my adolescence.

I am from thunderstorms as my bowling ball collides with the pins.

I am from hair that never stays blonde and extensions, redone every six weeks.

I am from a list of movies, twenty favorite films long—

telling those who read it can see my passion.

I will be from warm, yellow sunflowers and dark, red rose tattoos—

painted on my body like an artist’s canvas.

I will be from soothing bubble baths after a long day of work.

I will be from a family of my own—

full of content to learn where they’re from.
