Their voices catch my ears

“Who lives in the house by the sea?”

I stroll by it one day, glancing up quickly

Beautiful pillars, spiraling up

A warm yellow door, welcoming all

Crystal white walls, cleansing the eyes

Large windows, closed to them

Skipping stones,leading to the water

“It is a nice house,”

I tell them, squeezing by uninterested

Their mouths hang low, eyes wide and hungry

“Imagine living there, having that be your home

Imagine waking up to the sea every night! Imagine

Having the moon and stars in your room. Imagine

How the chandelier must glisten in the light!”

They wait for more, but only to my back

I walk up the grass, stepping on the prickly carpeted green

The door opens wide when i get there, three smiling faces waiting

Behind me their voices yelp as i lean in for a kiss

Their faces reflect off the windows revealing their dismay

Foolish girls, they look at the outside

It is a lovely house, but that is no home

Home is here, squeezing my little girl, and little boy

Watching their chubby fingers chasing after the

Rainbows casted on the walls from the chandelier

The fridge magnets spelling little names

The carpet with too many stains from juice and ice cream

The little glowing shoes left in the doorway

The plastic moons and stars and planets glowing on the ceiling

The room in the back painted with flowers, and sunsets of colors

Home is here, jumping on the bed

Giving a goodnight kiss, and climbing the squeaky stairs

Bundling under layers of blankets to avoid the draft

In between each framed photo on the nightstand

The spark of each kiss, and tender moment

Cleaning the sandy feet, and salty hair

Wearing a promise around my finger,

Only to come back to her every night

Why have a large bed, with no one in it?

Why have painted walls, with no memories to hang?

Why have a tv, with no one to watch it with

Why have a house, with no home?

Why look at the stars so far away,

When you can look in her eyes when you make her laugh
