A Letter to my Immigrant Parents
Long hours
Endless nights
You’ve only ever worked hard
Only ever tried your best
For a place you could not call your own
A place you could not call your home
You came into this country with nothing
I’ve seen your struggles
I’ve seen how hard you’ve worked
To be accepted into a country
That has never wanted you
That has never been open to you
To learn a language
That refused to learn how to pronounce you
This has never been your home
Only your hope
Your dream
For the future
For your children’s future
For my future
You taught me to work hard
Pushed me to strive for the best, life could give
And for you
I’ll keep trying’ keep going
Keep fighting
Keep working
As you have for me
Teaching this country
Of your struggles to be accepted
Of your hard work
Of your long hours
Of your endless nights
Of everything
Everything you’ve done for me

I have written poetry since I started middle school. My focus is on self-expression and the world around me. My inspiration comes from my experiences as well as my emotions. My poems evoke emotion and provide the audience with a sense of understanding of the situations i've been in.
