Was, Am, Will
My Walls are made of courage
built from hammers of Labor,
of Tears, of Opportunity, of Love.
it is painted with Red Stripes
next to a Black Star
not the same, never conjointed
but together nonetheless.
I rise from the Ashes
of Grazed Pastures
and Retouched Infrastucture
from Cattle and Traffic
both too close and too far
from small life and big dreams
born in its ambiguity.
and in My mind
where I live in Hot Red Jackets
and Blue Jeans, Bates Motel
and rolling Film between,
I add my Walls and my Ashes, stir it up,
whisper "Rosebud,"
and call it "HOME."

Just like the title suggests, this poem describes who I was, who I am, and who I will be. The first verse describes my roots as a child of immigrants who built a home in a new country for the betterment of my family. The second verse speaks to my suburban hometown, where so much and so little occurs. The last verse is a tribute to films A Rebel Without a Cause, Psycho, and Citizen Kane, the symbolism pointing to the fact that I strive to continue my love of film in the future. My past, present, and future make up who I am and what I consider my "home."
