My Rose
My Rose:
My sweet rose,
I’m sorry I’m selfish,
But in this world that’s how it tends to go.
Rose,
I had to have you for myself-
You were too good for anyone else
I watched as your thorns shed
And I watched you worry your pretty little head.
Oh my rose,
This is how it always goes,
By and by,
And the young ones
Always say oh my, my, my,
My dear rose-
Did I just hear you sigh?
That is the first sound you have made
Since I have captured you today.
Oh, my rose,
I do hope you don’t shed too many thorns
Because there is no one to protect you
And I am not nearly done
Inhaling your sweet perfume.
Little rose,
You may try,
But they always say it is your fault
That you got trapped today.
You should have worn your hair down
Without that revealing gown-
Oh, why that frown?
Silly rose,
In this world that’s how it always goes.

This piece is about how sexual assault, rape, and soemtimes even kidnaping in our culture is blammed on the victims by things like their attire, as the criminal "just couldn't help themselves." It also represents a society that oversexualizes fenales at a younger and younger age. I personally experienced sexual harassment, bullying, and stalking in freshman year.
