Not Another Regular APology
I want to tell you something,
I am sorry.
Really, I am.
I am deeply and profoundly sorry.
I am sorry because I didn’t stand up for myself,
Because I let you silence me,
I am sorry because I let your words get to me,
Because I let your actions hurt me.
I am sorry,
For all the things I kept inside,
When they were screaming for me to let them out.
Sorry,
For the times I said you were right,
When you couldn’t have been any more wrong.
I am sorry,
Because I could have done more,
I could have left earlier,
I could have walked out before.

Cristina is a mexican writer who finds escape and perspective in her words. She writes about matters that seem important to her, such as new beginnings, society, unfairness and falling in love. Her works usually talk about things few dare to talk about, since they are what we have grown to call normal. She is currently working on improving her poetry in both English, and her mother tongue, Spanish, as well as working on a few short stories. The poem “Not Another Regular Apology” talks about how we stay near people who are no good to us, weather it is a relationship or a friendship, sometimes we stay somewhere that is damaging for us. The author hopes that with this poem, people will realize they can stand up for themselves and that is perfectly fine.
