I Wish Summer Would Come Back From Vacation

It's cold. It's snowing. It's dire.
I'm tangled in five blankets,
And in front of a fire.
True, I love Christmas and lights on wire,
But it's summer, truly, that I desire.

As Halloween and candy hit the stores,
I saw Summer pack its bags,
On its way south for a tour,
It left a cold breeze behind as it danced out of my door,
Said a small, disappointing goodbye, and nothing more.

I look at the photos from the past year,
Can't help but feel a happiness so warm,
Remembering me at the beach with waters so clear,
Makes me look at my sky blue sun hat, just here,
There's still sand in the brim like a souvenir.

I would walk in the park for hours on end,
Watching the sunset on the river,
Playing tennis, or hiking trails to ascend,
Ice cream parlors and gardens to tend,
Craft fairs and playing make-pretend.

As my windows crack, fog, and freeze,
Where there once blew through a warm breeze,
As my schedule becomes a frantic Christmas sea,
When in the summer my schedule was care free,
Me, oh my, oh dear, oh please,

I already miss the relaxation,
Care free afternoons,
With no irritation,
No bad news,
And no orchestration,
And library books, long past due,
I wish summer would come back from vacation.

I love the snow, who doesn't? But honestly... my feet are always too cold and how can you stop and smell the flowers when everything's brown and dead outside? If not the color brown, then white with buckets of ice, snow, and frost on top of it all.

I suppose winter is summer's vacation, after all...
