Hazel Grace*
The little girl with sparkling eyes
 sitting in the back
 looked around and smiled bright
good health was all she lacked

Bruises all over her sun kissed skin
her freckles looked purple and blue
her tummy hurt a terrible lot
 the tears weren't something new

the doctor frowned and tried to explain
and finally gave them the news
their baby girl had one year left
 with cancer she would lose

Her mother sobbed and father cried
for their daughter had stolen their hearts
youth in her smile prance in her step
 she tore their hearts apart

An angel though that young girl was
 blameless so to say
but just last night she fell asleep
on that sad 8th day of May

Light she brought to a dull world
she laughed at her short fight
she never feared the dark of the sky
for she wasn't afraid of the night

She was now in perfect condition
 spotless and without flaw
she always dreamed of playing tag
without a boundary or a law

Up to the heavens she flew high
 as excited as can be
an innocent child had been taken away
But Hazel Grace was now set free
