To my Mother, on Friday
Thank you, Mother:
For teaching me the definition of space.
You were never in the same place,
always walking at a speed my legs could never chase.
I always wondered if you were on the run,
or maybe it's because you were done.
Thank you, Mother:
For teaching me how to cross the road,
but it shouldn’t have been the cars I avoided.
Maybe it’s the imaginary connection we should have voided,
because it was all just exploited.
Thank you, Mother:
For teaching me how to draw,
because I drew the feelings,
you never saw.
Following you around was my unwritten-law,
and I never thought you could have a flaw.
Thank you, Mother:
I'm not running away,
trying not to think astray.
But even though it's Friday,
you're still in my heart every other day.
