The Clover
I've only ever found one four-leaf clover,
But I've searched my entire life,
Upsetting the grass over and over
Only to be met with a three-leafed strife.
You find them so easily,
Like spotting a gold leaf in the trees of green.
You looked at me, so hopefully,
Like I was the brightest you had ever seen.
I found my clover before you found me.
It's a gamble that was won,
But I lost the hand so quickly;
Just as the race had begun
I left it on the counter and forgot it was there.
You neglected what you once wanted.
Funny, how the clover and I compare.
Maybe it isn’t our time.
We were plucked too soon.
Though ours was my favorite rhyme,
We had yet to write the tune,
But I hear the notes throughout the day;
I hear them when we speak.
With so much still left to say,
This silence makes me weak.
I wish I hadn’t lost the Clover.
I wish I’d held it close.
So, I’ll start the rhyme over
And pray you hear the notes.
