Underground
I sit inside my broken coffin
Dirt and ants beside me
I feel the ground above me shake
And wonder if they’re all like me
I pet the rat that lies besides
And stroke its little ears
It’s brittle bones and scraggly skin
Tear against my beard
I think about the ones above
And ponder on their lives
I hope they all love pet rats too
So I won’t be disliked
When that is done I knock the wood
To send a message down
To someone under just like me
Who waits for shakes to sound

I hope a sense of loneliness and loss is shown in this poem, along with a sense of innocent hope.
