Shatterred WIndows
The eyes that run their course upon my face
With hazel tones that cause my heart to race.
They glow like shining stars that fill the night
So beautiful, the way they give off light.
An innocence not readily exposed
And one I wish to never be reposed.
For why should eyes so beautiful and kind
Be put away, be forced to hide behind
The curtain that is let down to curtail
The show of life with its unholy veil?
But sadly, this is most often the case,
For life is harsh and wishes to erase
The happy moments that people bestow.
It seems that life likes to shatter windows.

I was inspired to write this piece after seeing a picture online of a shattered window. My teacher challenged me to learn to write in iambic pentameter, and I thought that I would never be able to do it. I ended up loving it, and it seemed that once I began I couldn't stop. We composed poetry books for her class, and it was my favorite assignment of the entire year :).
