What Am I?
What Am I?
My pages insides are destroyed
From neglect year after year
I am bulky and heavy
Like president William Howard Taft
With that weight
I have brought pain to the backs of many students
Teachers love me and students hate me
And I am probably way older than you
I’ve seen many students over the years from vigorous to unproductive
I have seen all of them
I have gone through a lot
And have taught generations of students,
But I know that soon
I will be replaced by the beloved school laptops
What am I?

If you didn't already figure it out what it is, it's a textbook. What inspired me to write this piece is the simplicity and familiarity of a textbook to me and most students. What I wanted to do was to make the textbook a more complex by describing it ways that are unique, but familiar. I didn't want to make this riddle hard so I also added stereotypes, which intertwined with the unique describing for example, a cumbersome textbook juxtaposed to William Howard Taft, the fattest US president. This was really fun to write and it all started from a simple textbook.
