Dark figures sitting inside
Waiting for the next command
So that they oblige
The ones who carry death in hand
For this is America

In my time black culture has been oppressed
But not in the way in how they dress
They start cultural movements in the young
But the older people think that we are dumb
Don’t doubt our knowledge of this wrong doing
The justice system is what we are proving
They say it’s fine
But really they are the ones doing the crime
For this is America

Darkness swarms the halls now
Horror stories of death rock the school like a ships bow
School shootings, police brutality, and corrupt elections
All swarm the news getting all of the attention.
Even in a small town
All of this goes down,
Only the favorites get to be in office
And we need to come together and stop this.
Threat of death by a crazed child
Man that’s pretty wild,
Racism is most disturbingly present
Almost like it is hell-sent

For this is America.

This poem was influenced by all of the oppression and crazy things that happened to me over the last year, also the things I have seen on the news.
