Journey Through Fear

"Make up your mind,"

The virus of fear struck me like lightning

The thunder of regret projecting omens in me

"Make up your mind,"

Volumes of struggle wash over me

It was as if the sky was grieving

I felt unwanted as eyes looked over me

My limbs like a heap of fur and feathers

Caught in the cliffs and cracks of fear

The disproportioned magnificence of fear strained my entity.

Relax.

This is a journey.

Lose the fear, forget the fear

The dazzling uncertainty of it is strange

But you are strong

You are in command

The wind of reluctance sweeps away

Brushed away like dirt under a rug

Trapped in the colors, bright as gems

The virus uninhibited from you

Safe from the desolate, lonely virus of fear

The powerful perfume of safety in the starlight

You are safe.

The author's comments:

This is a found poem and was inspired by excerpts from Travels with Charley and A Toast to the Oldest Inhabitant: The Weather Of New England. We took the author's words and made them into our own poem and made our own story. My poem is about trying to get over fear and how sometimes we need to take a breath and relax. We often let fear control our lives and we need to take a step back and realize, maybe life isn't so scary after all.
