Baby Girl
“Baby Girl”
the car pulls up beside me
“hey, baby girl, get in”
i am ten
walking down the street, loose pants down to my ankles
“hey, beautiful, get over here, god bless you, you’re beautiful”
twelve years old, i run into a restaurant seeking asylum
11:00 at night
46th street
a head pokes out of a yellow cab
“hey, sexy”
i look down at my short shorts
i bend down to pick up my dog’s s***
“damn, baby, i’d like to see you bend over more often”
i close my eyes and roll them
a car horn honks twice
i look over, he waves twice
his toothy grin runs chills down my spine
that was last week
“so many beautiful girls, i don’t know who to look at first”
here’s an idea
just don’t.

Stop cat-calling. It is not a compliment, just another way to assert male dominance and oppress women.
