Outsider looking in

February 23, 2018

Do you ever feel like a bundle of energy

Never knowing where you are going

Always feeling like electricity is rifling through your veins

You are like a child , can't sit still, can't get what you want

You want to be a rock, always still, always on the same path

You wish you were like everyone else

Not special, not different, just a fish in the ocean full of them

Then you remember, if you are just a fish, you can never become the Coral Reef

You aren't like everybody else, you are different

You can't escape who you are

You learn to accept everything about you

Because without the electricity, you would be like everyone

A rock that never moves is just a paperweight

But you will become the paper that can't be tamed, always moving foward

Embrace the electricity, embrace the fear and differences

For all you know you are the next light

The thing everyone can't imagine life without, and makes everyone's life brighter

Now you know everything about  what  makes you who you are

You love the electricity and you will never be a paperweight

Then again, you remember, if you show your true self you will be ridiculed

People will be jealous, intimidated, and scared

You will stick out like a red sock along with all the white ones

In fear, you think that you can't show your true genius without losing everyone

So you decide to go on

Hidden, a wolf in sheep's clothing

Now you know you can't be the Coral Reef

Only a lonely fish, just trying to get rid of its hands and trade them in for fins

You will forever be an outsider looking in

So far away you are Pluto looking down on earth

No longer a planet, just isolated and cold

You see the warmth of Earth, but you know with a brain like this you will never actually feel it

Like a bird in water or a fish in a tree

You will never be one of them

You will be Pluto, no matter how much love, tragedy, and fear surrounds you

Forever unchanging

Considered an outcast and a loner to the very few who know you

No one will be truly let in

You have a shield that is impenetrable around you

Not even you can get in

So you go on knowing how special you could be

But the fear always creeps in

And the feeling that you are an outcast reminds you who you are

You are the 8th dwarf that was left out

You are Batman without Robin

Pluto once again, I’m alone drifting in space

I will forever be an outsider looking in

When writing this article I just thought about how I feel every morning when I wake up and every night when I go to sleep. I usually feel isolated, but when writing poetry I feel connected.
