Promise me
I was never afraid of the dark
Monsters were never under my bed
Rather in my head
I did not fight the creators of the night
Rather the creators of the day
They creeped and they crawled
And begged to come out
I contained them the best I could
I drowned myself in other things
But it made them worse
They grew and grew
And frequently lashed out
It was not enough for them to take me down
They wanted everyone
As I suffered so did others
My monsters keep me from myself
They have won many times over and over
But not this time.
