How far?

Putting up with the chauvinistic philosophies

Of our modern day, ruled-by-man society.

You might have thought somebody would have said something-

But no, we sit and take emotional toture quietly.

Women have started talking about their personal tragedies

Left

And

Right

And yet here we are, not lifting one fist to fight.

How far will we let this go?

Since the beginning of time

We've been man-kind.

Notice the man in front?

200,000 years of male dominance,

And we have only now

Begun to shove them into the backseat.

No one in shotgun when this car is driven by me.

But still

We let those boys do

whatever they might want to

We won't say a word if we see,

Thinking "it could happen to me."

Now my mouth may not open,

But my pencil starts writing.

Let them start thinking I'll never say anything.

Let them assume they can just get away with everything.

They're wrong.

Just you wait.

I'll turn around and get you back for it someday.

The author's comments:

In one of my classes, a boy repeatedly irritated me, messing with my feet and shoes with his and making inappropriate jokes left and right. One other guy, who I thought was a friend, just laughed softly when I looked at him. My best friend and I were incredibly uncomfortable around him. She has yet to do anything, but after I detailed this to other friends, I needed to express my anger with the injustice against women in some way.
