The Boy

The little boy stood looking in the mirror.
His cold blue eyes looking back at him, his eye.
Why does he have this fear?
He was crying, did he have to do that in front of his mom, Why did he cry?

The other boys at school would have been mean, they would jeer.
They don’t know the struggles at home, all the lies, the lie.
His dad, the person that he loved, the person that causes him to fear.
The tears streaming down his face, causing his blue eyes to look like a rippled sky.

It has not been going well for the boy this school year.
First grade has been rough, the other years flew by.
But this year the new school has caused problems, the boy just wishes they will disappear.
All the taunts and nicknames come in a constant supply.

But there is still hope, basketball starts next week and the boy will show them all how he will adhere,
To all of their different offences and defences, to show them that he can be good and help them defy
Their opponents and win, to engineer,
A victory and be the star, not a person that is to be sneered,

But one that is to be cheered.  When he looks at the mirror,
And sees all the tears,
He knows that with the right attitude and if he perseveres,
He will not have to catch himself, ever again, crying.

I like this piece because it is a very deep poem, one that will hopefully touch people and allow them to feel and connect to the boy in this poem.
