Tornado
when i was eight, there was a news report on tv about a tornado in michigan.
i had seen a ton of movies about tornadoes and knew exactly what to do
i gathered all the things tornado experts said would come in handy.
even though the report was slim and nowhere near my house,
i was ready for it and my dad let me hide in the basement.
i sat there. just me, my dog, a flashlight and 2 pillows
the pillows were incase pieces of the roof flew at me
i stayed there for 3 hours- it felt like an eon
i felt so safe in the cold basement
perhaps that's why he let me,
because it made me feel
oh so
safe

This peice is a concrete poem (meaning it takes the shape of somthing.) Tornado was inspired by the love that parents show children in less obvious ways.
