I was diagnosed when I was 10 years old. I have lung cancer, stage 4. Lung cancer is a disease that prevents me from being able to breathe normal. My life is basically taking medicine 6 times a day, going to doctor appointments, and going to support group. I don’t go because I want to or because I like it. However, I go because my parents want me to.

One day, when I was heading to the Hospital and there was this new boy. We had ran into each other and he told me “Sorry.” We then had like a 5 minute awkward silence then we both walked away. When I entered the waiting room, I sat down in my chair waiting to get a room and I caught the boy I ran into the hallway, staring at me. I got so nervous because it made me feel like something was wrong with me. The doctor, also known as Kameron, called on the new patient (Alex) to his room.

The doctor appointment was over, and I was still waiting for my room, then he came up to me and asked for my name. I responded saying, “I’m Anna Gonzalez.”

He then replied back, “What a beautiful name and what a beautiful girl. The name suites you very well, let me introduce myself, I’m Alex and I’m 15 years old.”

I then responded to him saying, “Well thank you very much. I don’t get complimented very often but it’s a pleasure meeting you Alex.”

There was a bit of an awkward silence… again and then all of a sudden I get asked this. “Hey Anna, do you want to go eat dinner with me?”

My mom then pulled up and asked if it was time to go home and I responded “No, I made arrangements with Alex.”

Alex was driving us to his house, and while we were driving he asked “Hey, I want to get to know you very well, so tell me your story.” I started off saying, “I was diagnosed when I was 10 years old, at stage 4. One day my lungs got filled up with water, but then they gave me antibiotics and surprisingly it cleared out my lungs although it didn’t cure my cancer. This all came as a shocker, so they asked me to be on a commercial for those children that had miracles happen to them, and so I agreed. They asked me questions on how I felt with the whole situation.. So even though my lungs still suck at being lungs, it’ll continue to be like this for the rest of my life.”

Alex then replied “WOW! I’m speechless.”

We then arrived to his house and I met his wonderful parents, his mom, Aracely, and his dad, Antonio. Alex then guided me to his room upstairs. I was so speechless. His room was so beautiful. It was filled with quotes,books, and of course video games. I asked if I could sit down, and he said yes. So I sat down and he sat right next to me. He then asked another question. “Anna? Do you think maybe you could tell me a little bit about your family or your hobbies? If that’s okay with you?”

“Yes, it’s okay with me, what do you want to know about my family?”

“I would like to know if you have any siblings and if you do, how many do you have?”

I then started telling him that I had two siblings, both of them are older than me and they are both girls.

He asked me if my father was still in the picture.

I told him this, “ My father left us when he found out that my mom was pregnant again with me, so he said he couldn’t handle it and just like that, he was gone forever.”

Alex then felt bad and changed the subject. He asked what my hobbies were and the type of books I read.

“Well,” I said. “I like to watch movies and walk around to enjoy the perfect scenery of the Earth. I like to read romantic, sad books, but if ever do find a good book that isn’t about those things then I’ll continue to read them.”

“Okay, okay one more question then you can ask me anything. Do you attend college?”

I responded, “Actually yes, I attend to Baylor University, and I’m currently studying Math because I want to be an Accountant.”

He responded “WOW a college girl, that’s nice, I’m actually thinking to attend Baylor too, but maybe when I graduate because I’m only 16 right now. When or If I do join them, I would like to study Science and Math. I got a scholarship from them but I’m still debating if I should go now or when I graduate.”

I asked him, “Okay now it's my turn. You’re 16 and already got a scholarship?! That must be exciting.”

“Yeah, hard work does pay off.” said Alex.

An hour passed by and he said “Alright, are you ready to leave and go have some fun ?”

We both decided to eat at Texas Roadhouse. After we arrived, we had to wait a couple of minutes to get our seats.

After we got a booth, the lady asked us what we wanted to drink. So we ordered our drink and took a look at the menu. The waitress then came to give us our drinks and took our order. Alex asked for steak and so did I. After our steak arrived we both prayed before we ate. “God we bless you for this meal and for a new friend. Please continue to bless my life and hers. Amen.”

So they ate and talked for a while.

When it was time to go, they both got in the car but Anna didn’t feel good.

Alex took her to the hospital to see what was wrong. Anna just had a little fever. They asked her to stay the night at the hospital. So she did.

Alex stayed for a while but then decided to go home because he had a pile of homework due the next day. When he arrived to his house, he immediately asked his parents to pray. They all prayed together, “Lord please give Anna the strength to continue on strong and make sure she’s healthy. Amen.”

Alex then went up to his room and continued to do his homework. Alex received a phone call 2 hours later from Anna. She told him that she wasn’t in the hospital anymore because she didn’t want to stay there any longer. She told him she’s resting and she reassured him that everything was just fine.

The following day, Alex and Anna drove off to a lake to have a picnic with all their new friends they made in support group. Jake, the boy that just goes to support group for Alex, Liza, Jake’s girlfriend, and then we have Twin friends, Kylie and Kyndall.

After we chose a spot to sit at, we all started to pray.

After we had finished eating our lunch, Kylie then drove all of us home.

When I got home, Alex told me that he wanted to marry me. It all came as a shocker to me. We’ve only knew each other for 6 months! and he wanted to marry me!

The following morning, I told my mom that alex asked me to marry him. Alex came over to ask my mom permission to marry me. My mom of course said yes

So Alex then kneeled down and pulled out the ring and he said “Anna, will you make me the happiest man and Marry me?”

I said “YES”

We then planned our wedding and the date. We planned to have it on June 15th 2019.

I decided to invite all my friends and family to my house to tell them the big announcement.

After all the guests arrived, I asked them to quiet down. Then this was said, “so you all know how close Alex and I are. We’ve known each other for 6 almost 7 months and he asked me something so breathtaking. He asked me to marry him!”

Everyone was yelling in excitement, hugging each other crying happy tears. Then everyone congratulated me for the big news.

Planning and planning was happening, and we still had almost 2 years worth of planning left.

Two years past by and our wedding day came. Everyone was getting ready and setting the venue up.
Then the moment came. I was walking down the aisle and Alex was standing on the other side

The pastor was talking and asking us, “Do you Alex take Anna to be your wife?”

“Yes.” Said Alex

“Anna do you take Alex to be your husband?”

“Yes.” said Anna

“Then you may kiss the bride.”

After the whole wedding was over, we planned to go to our honeymoon in Hawaii.

Years and years past and we were still together and we lived a happy, happy life with a house of our own and with 2 beautiful children and well paying jobs.
