Where I'm From
I’m from the glow in the dark rosary sat on a crowded shelf
From kleenex and scott towels
I’m from the hidden subdivision overflowing with an attached
Group of people
Close living
It felt homey and comforting
I am from the white weed flowers growing in the grass
Glistening because of the humidity
I’m from the monthly birthday parties and
no sense of time
From Veva and Lena
All the Marjories
I’m from there’s a method to my madness
Sweet dreams think good thoughts
and
go go go
I’m from Church on Sunday with Ann and T2
And the long discussions after in the quiet cafe
I’m from my father’s great grandparents
Spaghetti and red sauce with a side of potatoes
From Beth’s butter melted on a plate
Scattered across the walls
A collage of memories
Filled with life love and laughter
And in my mind forever
I am from a place where any stranger could feel at home
