Where I am from
I’m from pralines,
From plantations and magnolias.
I am from old classic buildings, long, winding
they felt like forever.
I am from the mud
The bayou, of all the same mushy color
I’m from jazz and singing
From Kim and Kirk and Hunter
I’m from warm Decembers and Christmas parties
“Be nice” and “love unconditionally”
I’m from saints who hear me pray every day
Lost shoes and broken vases
While moms are yelling in faces
I am from forgiveness, love, and chatter
Only Blue Bell ice cream matters
With southern hospitality I learn to love
Not just others, but God above
