Mexicana
Being a Mexicana means
waking up to your mom blasting
Selena,Aventura,cumbias,& bachatas on saturday mornings.
Being a Mexicana means
Not going to fast food restaurants
Since there’s ‘‘frijoles” at home.
Being a Mexicana means
Not having guy friends
Without your mom thinking he’s your boyfriend.
Being a Mexicana means
going to family dinner
And have your tias ask you “y el novio?”
But being a Mexicana is also
being SO proud of Mexico,
respecting everyone no matter what color they are
Being a Mexicana is also
Coming from bailes at 4 in the morning,
Celebrating your heritage.
But most importantly being mexicana means that family is everything for you.

My heritage inspired me to write this poem, I really love writing about my roots and in this case i write about being mexicana, I hope that when other girls read this poem they can relate about things we do.
