What did I do wrong?
Snakes hiss my name with poisonous tongues
Racking my brain to find an interaction that went sour
I can’t find a problem, or are you sour yourself?

Everyday snakes hiss my name with poisonous tongues
Tell me snake, instead of playing this guessing game
I can’t find a problem, you must be sour yourself
I’m sure there is nothing wrong and you are just a drama queen

Tell me snake, instead of  playing this guessing game
Can’t fall asleep, trying to climb out of this snake pit
I’m sure there is nothing wrong and you are just a drama queen
Knot in my chest, tears in my eyes

Can’t fall asleep, trying to find my way out of this maze of snakes
Racking my brain for an interaction that went sour
Knot in my chest, tears in my eyes
What did I do wrong?

The author's comments:

I am a freshman and this is the first time I have submitted a piece for publication. This piece is about getting in a fight with someone who used to be a good friend, and now they are upset eith you and you have no idea why. I have unfortunately been a victim of bullying and it started when one of my very good friends started to ignore me and spread rumors. I would hear people talking about me and nobody would tell me what I did wrong. I chose a pantoum as my structure because in a pantoum there are a lot of repeating lines and it gives a feeling of obsession over the topic of the poem, and when everybody is turned against you, you obsess over what went wrong and how to fix it.
