He(a)rd
So strong.
What a wonder.
Ever mighty. How tall.
You protect what is yours. How do we protect you?
Your family, threatened by ours. Powerful. Never afraid to be.
I wish we could live in harmony, that we did not threaten your big family.
That some people did not want you as a trophy, but as a new, strong friend.
I wish that for some people, it isn’t a sport to hunt your magnificent kind.
That some did not saddle you and get big money from your long days of rides.
Because some do not see your family, your tired legs, or your long loneliness.
They see what you can do for them or how much money you can bring to them.
You roam a vast land far away, that sometimes I wish to visit, for a day or so. no
I wonder if you ever dream of a different time, or if you even know, how it was. s
Before us, was it different? To have no one hunting you for their new jewelry. a
To have the freedom, to be. Your wise eyes and long tusks show you want f
freedom to roam. Your strong bonds to your family shows you want the e y
freedom to love. The wrinkles down your body shows you want freedom t
to play. Your strong and powerful figure that is so tall shows that you are
free. Your memory spans for years and you
can show emotion. You have a large and loyal
family to protect your young. Habitat loss scares
you all, but some of us, want to protect you
all. With no safety from most of us, you have
to rely on your tusks. But even we can’t protect
you from all of their scary and horrible thoughts.

I wrote a concrete poem about elephants, if it is not in the proper shape I can send an attachment. I feel very strongly about the treatment of elephants in zoos and the hunting of elephants.
