Don't Crack the Ice
It was a snowy winter afternoon everyone, Jennah, Ashley, Riley, and I were situated comfortably on Riley’s basement couch, fish eyeing one of our favorite TV shows to watch together. We were snuggled up in bunches of blankets to keep warm.
~
All afternoon we had been stuffing our faces with heaps of junk food. Everyone was fatigued you could tell if you were there, but at the same time content with what we were doing.
~
Out of the blue Riley voiced. “We should go play in the snow.” … there was a dead awkward silence for a few seconds before everyone blurted out what they thought at the same time. “Yeah, let’s do it.” “Sounds fun.” “Sounds cold but I’m down for it.”
~
We all suited up to go into the icy cold. Coats, snow pants, boots, hats, and gloves, are the apparel we needed. Once finished getting ready we headed out to Riley’s garage to collect her snowboards, sleds and more.
~
All the way to the golf course across from Riley’s house, she was pulled by me on a gray and white sled, and Ashley was being pulled by Jennah on a red sled. Through the golf course we searched for the biggest hill we could find. Until we found the one we knew we wanted to use.
~
Ashley and Riley hopped off the sleds, so that Jennah and I could run up the hill without work. When all of us got to the very top we took turns sharing the sleds. One after another we rode down the hill screaming with joy all the way down.
~
Minutes passed and we were growing bored. What we needed was an idea to spice things up a bit. So with that, we all decided it’d be a good idea for all of us to go down a hill together on one sled.
~
We raced to the biggest hill we could find and climbed to the top and got situated. Excitedly we all hopped on together and on the count of three we all pushed off the snow as hard as we could, and we were off. At first all of us we were smiling laughing and screaming, but that was only for moments until we realized what we were heading for. A miniature lake. We all grew wide eyed at the sight of the frozen lake ahead of us.
~
We tried to stop the sled by using our feet to push against the snow, but it was no use we were going at such a rapid speed there was no way we could slow down. Heading for the frozen lake we all closed our eyes and hoped for the best.
~
3...2...1…
Amazingly we went zooming across the ice to the the other side of the lake, with not a scratch on us. Instead of the ice buckling beneath us, I guess it was so thick that it could support the weight of us all!
~
When we came to a halt at the edge of the lake, we were silent and frozen for a good thirty seconds. Until we all burst out laughing hysterically. We called each other out on the faces we made, and gave each other friendly punches on the shoulder as we laughed about how stupid we sounded. Nothing like that had ever happened to us before and it was crazy.
~
To end our day we packed up our winter toys and headed home for some hot chocolate and marshmallows.
