A Silver Dollar
The autumn leaves brighten the dark dusk,
The mammoth fell into the hands of evolution and lost its tusks.
While some lead and others follow,
Those who live the lives of others will be characterized by pain and sorrow.
Time ticks and minutes fly,
We started as timid, and some of us continuing as shy.
Lessons we learn seem somewhat insightful, yet
We must always remember, but somehow forget.
I lay in my bed thinking of things I could've changed
To correct the times, if only the past I could rearrange.
But, the painful alarm of my clock still wakes me every morning,
Waking up to issues like what is global warming.
In debt, we reach in our pocket,
I realized that people are defined by what is in their wallet.
But time passes,
And we keep moving.
The discontinued is layered, walked upon, and lost in cover
What are we meant for on this earth, with so many gifts, we have yet to discover
But to appreciate the present is truly a gift
And to dwell in the past is like walking off of a repeated cliff.
So what must we do if something can't go our way?
Appreciate the fact that I am alive on this day.
