She's tossing and turning
sleeping in her bed at night
she's crying
as her heart breaks apart.

When she's awake
darkness is all she sees,
when she's asleep
shadows invade her dreams.

These nightmares are just dreams
that invade her thoughts at night
they play mind tricks and games
and she can no longer fight.
She's giving up what's left
because there's no difference to her.
These nightmares aren't just dreams
these nightmares are her.

She wakes up
tears in her dark eyes
they see no way out
they see no light.

She hangs on to the threads
that long ago were lost
she hangs on to the hope
that hope will come.

These nightmares are just dreams
plain tricks of the mind
no need to be scared
but no answer she can find.
These nightmares aren't just dreams
they're pain and sorrow
of what she suffered in the past
as she tries to walk.
She walks this new path
a path that sheds some light
and she realizes
these nightmares won't come back.
