Snowshoeing

March 9, 2009

Trekking in snowshoes across the fields in three feet of snow
Taking turns leading to make it easier for the rest
Faces turn red as the fridgid wind blows
Spotting a bright cardinal peering from its nest

Big tracks left on the ground that has been walked
Squinting with iced over eyelashes as the snowflakes fall
Knowing when to switch leaders without having to talk
Excited brown dog running about never needing to be called

Heading back home making the way through the pine trees
Finishing up before the night is completely black
Sitting down taking off the snowshoes with ease
Putting them back until tomorrow's walk on the rack
