When the Vow Breaks
When the doors would
Slam!
and Wham!
I knew love was all a
Sham
As each tear of my mother's began to
Fall
I knew love was not meant for
All
With my father's cherry face streaked with frustration
Grew redder and redder
I knew love
Would not become better
When our house shook with
Bubbling, boiling, bitterness
As Words my parents did not mean escaped their mouths
And Insults rattled about their minds like prisoners
Anger percolated in each heart
I knew love
Was not there, even from the very start.
When the vow breaks
And the screaming would start
I could be found under a tree
covered in nature's blanket
Practicing my art
Needless to say,
Love for my parents might as well
Have lasted a day
Divorce came and the anger escaped us
All the bubbly, bustling emotions fizzed and freed themselves
But I'm still not sure if it really helped.
