When I was younger,
It was a struggle
To ride my bike without falling
To convince my parents to let me get a pet rabbit
To deal with the death of my pet rabbit
To run after the ice cream truck being four feet tall
And to find the perfect dandelion in my backyard
to use for my wish.

When I was in middle school, It was a struggle;
To find a table at lunch
To apply eyeliner correctly
To like my appearance
To talk to boys
To wake up before sunrise
And to be genuinely happy.

Now,
it's a struggle;
To get good grades
To make my parents proud
To work in hopes of success
To quit my addictions
To text him back
To not be jealous,
It's a struggle
to be sweet
to explain my past actions.
It’s a struggle
to pay attention in math class when i’d like to be home,
playing with my cat, Wasabi.
It's a struggle to do things right
and lastly,
It's a struggle
to write this poem.
