You Thought
You thought I would never make it.
You thought I was never going to be successful.
You thought i’d need an athletic scholarship just to finish getting my education.
You thought I would be a thug, someone who struggles and can never see better days
You thought that “my type of people” would never be able to make it to the next social level through hard work and dedication in the classroom alone.
You thought a person like me would need to be a rapper or dancer to feed his or her family.
You thought i'd be an uneducated, ghetto, unknowledgeableignorant, foul mouthed juvenile delinquent who grows up to be a 3-bit thug who robs convenience stores to pay the bills. Maybe I was born into this lifestyle, filled with savageryignorance, drugs, and plenty of violence. But I will make sure this will not be my future lifestyle.
You thought I was lying when I said i’d make it to college on an academic scholarship, become a doctor and live a comfortable life of wealth and satisfactionhappiness.
You I would never make it in life.
You thought wrong.
