On a Road
The engine sputters
The hinges creak.
It moans and groans
as it limps down the street.
The parts don't match,
The wheel's conver is torn,
It's mismatched seats
are weathered and worn.
The bumper is rusted,
Its paint tattered and peeled,
The rubber is nearly gone
on its tired old wheels.
The exhaust pollutes the air,
Only one headlight works.
The ride is long
with all of the bumps and jerks.
But through the scratches and dents,
and after the road's twists and bends,
we will realize there's nothing more satisfying
than a hardship overcome and a trouble's end.
