Over the Edge
My friend, brother and I
look down a captivating sand dune
as steep as a cliff.
Intrigued by this great lake’s
majestic appearance down below,
we can’t resist the urge to get to the bottom.
The crashing waves are calling our name.
The sand crunches between our toes.
The warm rain trickles down.
The thought of the climb that is yet to come,
is in the back of our anxious minds.
My brother takes the first brave leap over the edge.
He disappears behind the piles of soggy sand.
Now, it’s our turn.
We leap down the dune with fear in our hearts.
We now have little control,
trying our best to dodge the sharp rocks,
and the fresh fallen branches.
We fall, roll and tumble down the bumpy path,
coating our wet bodies with sand,
as we desperately try to reach the blue water below.
At last, we get to the end of the treacherous dune.
We launch into the large, refreshing, breath of the waves.
As we’re tossed around
by the powerful water,
we feel free.
The only worry now,
is which big wave will crash into us next.
In warm water
and calm, cool air,
the feeling of relief is within us.
We reached the perfect summer’s end.
