Leaves of Memory
When I look up and grant the trees a gaze,
And face the colors crowning leafy heads,
And see the wind that blows a gentle whistle
Amidst the golds, and oranges, and reds,
I suddenly remember bits of happiness
Which came when autumn guested here once more;
Some temporary spurts of past and innocence
When leaves were “fun” and rain was called a “bore.”
It was when piles grabbed attention more than colors,
And leaping after birds was more than sky,
When clouds were sad instead of being beautiful,
And I didn’t care if memories flew by.
It was when I was either sad or happy,
And I did not accept that both could dwell,
It was when I was sad that school was starting,
Then happy when the first day went quite well.
That is what autumn’s painted colors brought me –
The bits of this grand season from my past.
But this time, I remember all these feelings,
And hope that all these memories will last.
