My Big Bass & What I Come From
I come from
raising rabbits,
and chickens
I come from
hunting for deer and ducks,
pheasants and geese
I come from
working on my truck
and other cars
I come from
watermelon and hot dogs,
mac and cheese and soda,
on warm summer nights
I come from
baitcasters and braid,
senkos and crankbaits,
and jigs and poppers
The sun had not awaken yet
But we were waiting with a net
It was too early for many
But we were up and ready
Line in the water
Hand on my reel
I was just waiting for the drag to peel
Suddenly I felt it
The unmistakeable feel of a bass
My rod tip bent
The slippery slimy fish made a splash
I knew this will be time well spent
He fought like a bull
It was unforgettable
I pulled him out and got all wet
But that was okay
He was my biggest bass yet
