Run, Run
Run Run
She can’t keep up
Her little legs are trying
She can’t take another step
She struggles to put in some pep
When she hears the dogs barking behind her
Run little girl as fast as those legs can carry you
Here come the catchers
They’re coming to get you
Almost to freedom
She can make it
She can see the beacon
She keeps on running
Hoping to make it
Panting hard
Her lungs feel as though she has asthma
Feet on fire dripping sweat
This little girl remembers them making bets
Her past life and her memories
Keep her heart pumping rapidly
Fighting her way through
Pushing vines and bushes just to prove
She can make it
Here comes freedom
She can almost taste it
her little legs can’t carry her
She felt like she was set aflame
Her body is damaged
The girl almost made it
But the catchers were faster
This is the tragedy of a runaway
Running for freedom
Only to be trapped
Waiting to be freed once again
