A subjugated people, frustration builds
A name has been called, the archduke to be killed
The deed is done, the assassination fulfilled

Austria plans to attack.
Germany watches her back.
Russia grows Nervous.
Millions sign for military service.
France and Britain soon to enter.
Death soon the great tormentor.

Machine guns rattle about.
Death throes cry out.
Artillery rains.
Becoming just daily pains.
Monotony and blood.
Stain this godforsaken mud.

A subjugated people, frustration builds.
A name has been called, the archduke to be killed.
The deed is done, the war’s fulfilled.

The author's comments:

It's a short poem about the buildup and darkness that encompossed World War 1. I love history and wanted to write about a topic I enjoy reading and learning about, And I also wanted people to remember war is heroic, and to not forgot how much was lost during this war for what can seen as a trivial matter.
