The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree,
That’s what’s said, but will it be?
Jealousy ruled the second fair,
She hated Snow, with her black hair.
You know the stories and their end;
What if the line between fairy and reality has begun to bend?

The clock strikes twelve,
A shoe that’s held
Is the only clue
To finding the girl who flew.

A bird of fire sweeps through the night,
And wonders why others hide in fright.
To her the night is a second skin,
For her to flame and burn within.

A girl up high in a tower,
Wishes for the power
To be free. To run and jump and be,
Nothing more than you or me.

A swan settles upon a lake,
And wishes for her prince to rescue her,
But she fears he may concur;
The only way to save them both
Would be to give of what’s their worth.

A princess sleeps in a castle surrounded by thorns,
Every child reading mourns.
They think all is lost,
But then the prince breaks the curse,
And so lives on the verse:
“A dream that you wish will come true.”

So, what I’m suggesting-
It’s not at all depressing-
Is that maybe fairy tales aren’t writer’s fails.
That they’re true,
About me and you.
